Door boss

A door boss is an unofficial name for the first of two boss encounters in some Trial trials or Raid raids that does not award loot upon defeating it, but grants the party a checkpoint that they will restart from if they wipe to the second boss. Note that exiting the instance and re-entering will require defeating the door boss again.

Normal and Savage Raids

Door bosses in raids have become more prominent since Raid Omega: Deltascape (Savage) in patch 4.05. These are typically found in the final (fourth) encounter of each savage raid tier. The second phase of the encounter is a savage-exclusive boss that is not present in the normal-difficulty version. Since then, only three fourth-floor savage raids: Raid Eden's Gate: Sepulture (Savage), Raid Eden's Verse: Refulgence (Savage), and Raid AAC Light-heavyweight M4 (Savage), do not have a door boss or checkpoint.

While older door bosses in savage raids have been relatively short encounters, newer door bosses since Raid Eden's Promise: Eternity (Savage) are often full-fledged, 7-8 minute boss encounters by themselves and compose a little less than half of the total fight time. In general, more emphasis is placed on the difficulty of mechanical execution for the door boss, while the second phase of the savage encounter is more structured as a puzzle. The door boss also tends to have a somewhat higher DPS requirement than the final boss.

Note that non-boss enemies, such as trash mobs in older raids, are excluded in the following table.
