Resurrect
Resurrect, abbreviated as res or rez by players, is the process of bringing a defeated player character back from KO.
Mechanics
Using a Resurrect action or item on a dead player will give them the Raise status for one minute. The target player will be given a prompt to accept the raise, wait, or decline the raise. If the player declines, the Raise status will be removed, although they can still be targeted with another Resurrect action. If the player accepts, they will be teleported to the resurrecter's location when they used the Resurrect action.
After a few seconds, they will be revived with 20% of their max HP and MP and given the Transcendent buff that lasts for 5 seconds. This buff prevents them from taking damage from most sources, although some attacks (known as Unique Damage) will bypass this buff. Transcendent will be removed when the timer expires or if the player executes any action. Recently revived players should refrain from taking actions (including Sprint) until they are healed, if there is an unavoidable attack coming up.
They will be inflicted with Weakness upon their first revival, and all subsequent revives with Brink of Death until the player lives long enough for the Weakness / Brink of Death to wear off. These debuffs last 100 seconds and reduce Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Mind by 25% or 50%, respectively. If a player dies with either of these debuffs, it will persist indefinitely unless if the player is revived again, which will refresh the timer. If players "release" to respawn after combat is over, they will not be inflicted with any debuffs.
Resurrect Actions
The following actions and classes can resurrect:
Healer
Level 3 Limit Breaks from Healers will resurrect all party members within range without giving a prompt to accept the raise and will not teleport the resurrected players to the healer's location. This means that players who are resurrected in an instant kill AoE that bypasses Transcendent (e.g., the death wall of the arena) will immediately die upon being resurrected. Resurrecting using a Limit Break will also not inflict Weakness or upgrade it to Brink of Death. However, any players who died with these statuses will have their duration refreshed to 100 seconds.
Magical Ranged DPS
Specialized actions
There are also specialized Raise spells for use in specific duties:
- Eureka - Raise L, Sacrifice L, Spirit of the Remembered (self auto-revive)
- Bozja - Lost Arise, Lost Reraise, Lost Sacrifice, Resistance Phoenix, Resistance Reraiser (self auto-revive)
- Variant Dungeons - Variant Raise
- Criterion Dungeons - Variant Raise II
Items
There are also resurrection items, though they cannot be used during combat so their usefulness is limited mainly to Deep Dungeons:
Duties
Player death and resurrection are mechanics in the following duties:
- The Unending Coil of Bahamut (Ultimate) - Upon defeating both Nael deus Darnus and Twintania, the party will die to Teraflare but will be revived by Phoenix in a way similar to a Healer Limit Break 3.
- Abyssos: The Eighth Circle (Savage) - The party will "die" to Ego Death from Hephaistos but will be revived if they have a specific buff. This technically does not count as a resurrection as players with the buff will not die and lose their stored resources, although an animation of them being revived will play.
Limitations
In most combat situations, there is no limit to the number of resurrect actions that can be used, although resurrect spells are limited by their high MP cost. Consumable MP restoration, such as HQ Super-Ethers, may be used to somewhat mitigate this. However, normal resurrection actions and items are disabled in the following duties:
This will be represented by the Resurrection Restricted debuff.
Resurrection is possible using more limited means in most of these duties, except for savage criterion dungeons, where all resurrection is disabled.
