Verpaulaine was born to two of Aporia's researchers, and as the magicks used to keep the Forum's secrets were too potent for children, was forbidden from leaving Labyrinthos for fear of what he might unwittingly reveal. Having received a rigorous education from his mother, a mathematician, and his father, an aetherologist, he has demonstrated intellectual capabilities to rival those of much older students. He was the first to notice a fault in the artificial sun that has warmed him his entire life, and with the aid of a persistent adventurer, proved that it was unstable in time to avoid disaster. In recognition of this, the youth received permission to attend the Studium at the age of twelve summers.
