The Sundering
The Sundering refers to the act which split reality into the The Source and its Thirteen Reflections, and was the consequence of the conflict between two separate factions in the wake of the Final Days that tormented the World Unsundered, Etheirys. The Convocation of of the Fourteen came to a decision that half of the remaining population must be sacrificed to create a being so powerful it could fix the weakened aetherial currents blanketing the world, and stave off the final days. Azem protested this plan, and stepped down. Following the summoning of Zodiark to stop the disaster, the world began to recover, just a bit. The Convocation were unwilling to let the souls sacrificed to summon Zodiark remain trapped within, and thus prepared themselves to sacrifice the new generations to restore the world and souls lost to what they once were. As a consequence, Venat and thirteen followers stole the "deity" concept from the Words of Lahabrea and summoned Hydaelyn in order to prevent this from occurring. Zodiark, weakened from restoring the world, fought the far weaker Hydaelyn in a struggle of mythological proportions. Hydaelyn had the sole advantage of being born of light and stasis, and thus was able to seal Zodiark away. Following this, she split reality, reducing the inhabitants of the star to a fraction of their power, so much weaker that they were left unable to use the creation magic that had perpetuated the Final Days.
