Journal
- Sul Uin regards you with a munificent expression.
- You speak unto Sul Uin your desire: entry to Lyhe Ghiah, that you might vanquish the Lightwarden of the land. Only then do you learn that your quarry is in fact the king and ruler of the faeries, Titania, who defeated a Lightwarden that had threatened Il Mheg, only to be corrupted by the aether that was subsequently released. Though the pixies are convinced that you will perish in the attempt, they readily agree to cooperate─if for no other reason than that it would prove interesting to watch. They duly bestow upon you a white dress, one of four relics required to lift the seal over the castle. If you are to obtain the first of the three remaining items, you will need to set forth for the Untouchable Gate by the lake to request an audience with the slippery Fuath.
- Standing before the Untouchable Gate, you call out to the Fuath, but there is no reply. While the party considers other ways to reach out to the creatures, the watery voice of a Fuath rings out. It agrees to give you the shell crown relic, but in exchange you must brave the dangers of their domain, Dohn Mheg, in a show of “thrilling sport.” With no other recourse, you make ready to sally forth into unknown waters.
- ※To enlist your companion NPCs for this duty, speak with them near the entrance or access Duty Support via the main menu. Use the Duty Finder if you wish to complete the instance alongside fellow players.
- You fight your way through the Fuath's domain, providing them the sport they desired and earning the shell crown for your trouble.
- Before you can depart with your prize, the Fuath live up to their reputation by attempting to claim you for their own, and you are swallowed up by a mighty wave, everything turning black. Fortunately, your ability to breathe underwater saves you, and you awaken in the depths of the lake with Ardbert yelling in your ear. At his urging, you set out to rejoin the others back on dry land.
- Your comrades are relieved to see you none the worse for your soaking, and Alisaie presents you with the shell crown by way of reward for your doggedness. At that moment, Sul Uin flutters in with word that armed men are drawing close to Il Mheg─the Eulmoran Army in all likelihood. While the twins return to Lydha Lran with the pixie to assess the situation, you and the others agree to continue your quest to collect the remaining relics.
Dialogue
(Optional) Urianger: Full glad am I to see that our gifts were gratefully accepted. Confident though I was in our choice, there is no accounting for mood.
Accepting the Quest (Cutscene)
Sul Uin: So, what is it that you desire? Rusty old coins like you mortals are wont to collect, perhaps?
Urianger: We are resolved to vanquish the Lightwarden of this land. To that end, we desire entry to Lyhe Ghiah.
Sul Uin: What a strange thing to wish for! You might as well ask for your death! Sul Uin: But if that is what you want, who are we to argue? Very well, I shall speak with the others.
Alisaie: You've clearly been busy, Urianger. Would you be so kind as to tell us what we've missed?
Alphinaud: ...So that was the purpose of the gifts.
Alisaie: Is there anything you can tell us about this Lightwarden?
Urianger: Aye, my lady. By circumstances most tragic, the Lightwarden of this land...
Sul Uin: ...Is our king and ruler, Titania. Sul Uin: It was not always so, of course. Our king fought the first Lightwarden that threatened our home, you see. Fought it, and won. Sul Uin: But all the horrible light that came out went and corrupted them, turning them into a new Lightwarden. Sul Uin: Now, they're king only in name. Naught remains of the wise and just ruler that used to be. We had no choice but to seal them in the castle. Sul Uin: The magick for breaking the seal, we divided into four, and wove each into a different relic, to be kept apart until the time was right... Sul Uin: And this dress is one of them. It's been in our safekeeping for years and years, but we've decided to entrust it to you.
Alphinaud: Are you sure?
Sul Uin: Of course. Custom demands it. Sul Uin: Though you're most certainly going to your deaths, we thought we should at least let you try. That way, we get to watch what happens! Sul Uin: Of course, you can't break the seal unless you have the other relics too. Sul Uin: The shell crown is with the Fuath, the stone scepter is with the Nu Mou, and the crystal shoes are with the amaro. Sul Uin: Good luck finding them all!
Urianger: The facts thus disclosed confirm mine own understanding. Our quest lieth now before us. Urianger: First, let us hie to the lake, there to claim the shell crown from the Fuath. Urianger: If we call to them before the Untouchable Gate, they will answer.
Optional
Sul Uin: You're still here? I thought you were off to round up the relics to break the seal over Lyhe Ghiah.
Thancred: During our sojourns in Il Mheg, we avoided the lake at all costs. Let that suffice to warn you of its dangers.
Minfilia: I was taught never to talk to the Fuath under any circumstances... Are you sure this is a good idea...?
Urianger: Through the gate lieth the domain of the Fuath.
Alphinaud: What a lot of leafmen...
Alisaie: I was about to say the Fuath couldn't be any more unreasonable than the pixies, but that's just asking for trouble.
Investigating the Untouchable Gate (Cutscene)
Urianger: Hearken to me, O spirits of the water. We are come with an entreaty.
Thancred: Not in a talkative mood, apparently.
Alisaie: I'm not exactly sure how the gate works... Alisaie: But if the Fuath are water spirits, perhaps we should take our search into the lake.
Alphinaud: O-Oh? I...I suppose a brief dip wouldn't hurt...
Alisaie: We all know Thancred swims like an eel, but what about you, Minfilia?
Minfilia: I can swim well enough. Thancred taught me.
Alisaie: Excellent. Alisaie: What about you, Urianger? I'm not sure I've ever asked. Urianger: ...Rather than swim, mayhap it would be more...expeditious to walk upon the surface by means of magic.
Alphinaud: You too, Urianger!? That you should be a kindred spirit! Alphinaud: Worry not, my friend. I know some helpful tricks, and I should be more than happy to share them with you. Together, we shall conquer the waves!
Watery Voice: Well, well, aren't we a lively lot! And you have an entreaty for us, you say? An entreaty from mortals─what a treat!
Urianger: Aye. My comrades and I are on a quest to vanquish the Lightwarden. Urianger: To that end, we would humbly beg the loan of the shell crown, which we are given to understand is in the safekeeping of your people.
Watery Voice: Oh? Is that all? Of course, of course! You may have it! You shall have it!
Thancred: Just like that? What do you want from us?
Watery Voice: Ohoho, no need to be so suspicious! The crown simply doesn't mean much to us, is all. Watery Voice: As a matter of fact, nothing means much to us. For we Fuath, it's over before it's begun, and we couldn't care less what becomes of the faerie king, nor the world for that matter. Watery Voice: Having said that...we do so seldom have mortal visitors, and it would seem a shame not to make the most of you... Watery Voice: Touch the Untouchable Gate, and come hither to our domain, Dohn Mheg. In your tongue, it means “forbidden realm.” Sounds forbidding, yes? Watery Voice: And so it should, for we are one with the water, our home wrought of ripples and waves and currents. Find your way through. Give us thrilling sport. And we will give you the crown!
Optional
Thancred: When we sally forth, allow me to lead the van. Bearing the brunt is my specialty these days. Thancred: While I was in imperial territory, I learned how to wield the gunblade, but I subsequently let my skills go to rust for want of the ability to replenish my own ammunition. Thancred: When I decided to rescue Minfilia, however, I knew I needed a more defensively minded style, so I placed a special order at the Crystalline Mean, and the rest is history.
Minfilia: I can fight too. I promise I won't be a burden.
Urianger: 'Twas never like to be simple. Hard though it may seem to believe, the Fuath's love of games surpasseth even that of the pixies. Urianger: And in the name of their games, full many men have drowned. We must needs take all care if we are to avoid meeting a watery end.
Alphinaud: So they desire sport. It seems safe to say we must proceed fully prepared. Alisaie: I'll take sport over pixie chores. Let's give the Fuath what they want.

Thancred, Urianger, Minfilia
Minfilia: It's like being in a dream...
Urianger: Yet the dangers of this dream are very real. Be not distracted by its beauty.
Minfilia: Is that a Fuath? What is it doing?
Thancred: Making their minions stronger, by the looks of it.
Minfilia: Oh, my! Did you see the flowers? Thancred: Stay focused, Minfilia.
Urianger: That their chieftain should personally stand in our way...
Thancred: If it stands in our way, it falls like the rest.
Minfilia: We did it! We won!
Thancred: No. It was just toying with us.
Minfilia: Look! The landscape is changing!
Thancred: It seems they haven't quite had enough games.
Urianger: Curious... Yonder creature doth resemble Griaule, a beast of Voeburtite legend.
Urianger: This beast falleth short of the legend.
Minfilia: A palace of water... It's like something out of a faerie tale...
Thancred: Except we're the ones in the tale. Stay on your guard.
Minfilia: The crown! We've found it!
Thancred: No, stop! I smell a trap!
Minfilia: This time we'll really have the crown!
Thancred: Focus on the fight, Minfilia─not the prize.
Thancred, Alphinaud, Minfilia
Alphinaud: That this should all be an illusion...
Minfilia: Is that a Fuath? What is it doing?
Thancred: Making their minions stronger, by the looks of it.
Minfilia: Oh, my! Did you see the flowers?
Thancred: Stay focused, Minfilia.
Alphinaud: Their leader, if I'm not mistaken. Ware its glamours.
Minfilia: We did it! We won!
Thancred: No. It was just toying with us.
Minfilia: Look! The landscape is changing!
Thancred: It seems they haven't quite had enough games.
Alphinaud: A wasp nest! Have care!
Thancred: Let's cut this overgrown scrub down to size.
Thancred: Time for another type of ammunition.
Minfilia: A palace of water... It's like something out of a faerie tale...
Thancred: Except we're the ones in the tale. Stay on your guard.
Minfilia: The crown! We've found it!

Urianger: Naught here is what it seemeth. Tread warily.
Thancred: Seems they don't mean to make this easy for us.
Alisaie: Such breathtaking scenery...
Urianger: That their chieftain should personally stand in our way...
Thancred: If it stands in our way, it falls like the rest.
Alisaie: Off it goes... It seems we must do more to earn the crown.
Alisaie: More illusions? You have to hand it to them...
Thancred: Ah, yes, the good old stop-them-with-wasps trick.
Urianger: Curious... Yonder creature doth resemble Griaule, a beast of Voeburtite legend.
Alisaie: They recreated a legend, is that it?
Urianger: This beast falleth short of the legend.
Alisaie: Imitation will only take you so far.
Alisaie: Real or no, it's beautiful beyond words...
Urianger: The crown... With its protectors conspicuous in their absence...
Alisaie: That's a nice illusion, but you can't fool us!
Thancred, Alphinaud, Alisaie
Alphinaud: That this should all be an illusion...
Thancred: Seems they don't mean to make this easy for us.
Alphinaud: What magick is this that could create such a convincing illusion?
Alphinaud: Their leader, if I'm not mistaken. Ware its glamours.
Alisaie: Off it goes... It seems we must do more to earn the crown.
Alisaie: More illusions? You have to hand it to them...
Alisaie: A wasp nest? Really?
Alphinaud: They certainly have no shortage of ideas.
Thancred: Let's cut this overgrown scrub down to size.
Alisaie: Nothing to it.
Alphinaud: Never have I seen such mastery over glamours.
Alisaie: The crown already? Forgive me if I'm suspicious.
Alisaie: That's a nice illusion, but you can't fool us!

Minfilia: It's like being in a dream...

Alphinaud: Watering the plants? Nay, strengthening them.
Minfilia: Oh, my! Did you see the flowers?
Alphinaud: Their leader, if I'm not mistaken. Ware its glamours.
Alphinaud: Looks like it had enough.
Alisaie: More illusions? You have to hand it to them...
Alisaie: A wasp nest? Really?
Alphinaud: They certainly have no shortage of ideas.
Alisaie: Lovely, a leaf monster.
Alisaie: Nothing to it.
Minfilia: A palace of water... It's like something out of a faerie tale...
Minfilia: The crown! We've found it!
Alisaie: That's a nice illusion, but you can't fool us!
Thancred, Minfilia, Alisaie
Thancred: So this is the realm of the water spirits...
Minfilia: Is that a Fuath? What is it doing?
Thancred: Making their minions stronger, by the looks of it.
Minfilia: Oh, my! Did you see the flowers?
Thancred: Stay focused, Minfilia.
Alisaie: If you desire sport, we're happy to oblige!
Minfilia: We did it! We won!

Post Duty Optional Pop—ups
Urianger: Their mastery over glamours is truly astounding.
Minfilia: Is... Is it over?
Thancred: I daresay they've had their fill of sport.
Alisaie: Time to collect our prize.
Alphinaud: Phew, we did it...
Post-Duty Cutscene
Amused Fuath: Hah hah! Well fought, well fought!
Aenc Thon: Ohh! You do not hold back... Aenc Thon: But I would have it no other way! Seldom have I enjoyed such sport!
Urianger: We have satisfied thy demands. Wilt thou now satisfy ours?
Aenc Thon: Of course! Of course... Aenc Thon: There it is, the relic you seek! Yours for the taking. Have care you do not break it, though, yes? Aenc Thon: Ah, but you, my friend... You are mighty indeed...and pleasing to the eye besides!
Amused Fuath: More! I want to see more of [her/him]!
Mischievous Fuath: Yes, yes! I could watch [her/him] forever!
Enthusiastic Fuath: Why don't we just make [her/him] one of us?
Delighted Fuath: Yesss! One of us!
Aenc Thon: Wahaha! What a fine idea! Why ever didn't I think of that!? You may have the crown...but in exchange, we will have you!
Cutscene
Ardbert: Wake up! Wake up, damn you! Ardbert: Oh, you're alive! Thank the gods. I don't know where you learned to breathe underwater, but it's lucky you can. Ardbert: I'm sure you had your reasons, but the first rule of dealing with the Fuath...is do not deal with the Fuath. Ardbert: It's said that they are born from the souls of the drowned. Were it not for your little trick, you'd have joined them. Ardbert: Your friends are safely back on dry land, in case you were wondering. They'll be searching for you, I expect. Ardbert: That's the royal capital of the Kingdom of Voeburt down there. It's seen better days. Ardbert: They were a stubborn lot, the Voeburtites. Set in their ways. But once you got to know them, you couldn't find a more welcoming people. Ardbert: It always froze over in winter, being up in the mountains. So we'd pull up our chairs round the fire and trade tales over steaming bowls of lamb stew, while the street lamps burned hot and bright outside... Ardbert: All dead and buried now. Them and anyone else who might remember. Ardbert: Everything we did...everything we gave... What was it for? Ardbert: I wond─ I hope you'll have a better answer than this when all's said and done.

Searching for Urianger (Cutscene)
Alisaie: I'm...<huff>...I'm going back in.
Urianger: Nay, my lady. Exhausted as thou art, thou wouldst only endanger thyself. I prithee, rest a moment.
Thancred: There was nothing where we looked. Thancred: [Forename]!
Alphinaud: Dear gods... Were it not for Soroban's blessing... But I need not labor the point. I am glad to see you safe and well, my friend.
Alisaie: Have you any idea how worried we were!? To wash up on the shore, only to find you weren't with us!? Alisaie: Oh, but I'm forgetting─here's your crown, Your Majesty! The Fuath kept that part of the bargain, at least!
Thancred: While there were certain twists and turns, our work here is done, with everyone none the worse for wetness.
Sul Uin: Oh! Thank goodness you're still here!
Alphinaud: Sul Uin! Is something amiss?
Sul Uin: A great big mob of mortals is marching to Il Mheg. Mortals with ugly weapons and uglier faces! Sul Uin: They wouldn't happen to be your friends, would they?
Thancred: Rather the reverse, I fear. The Eulmoran Army, at a guess.
Sul Uin: Meaning...we can play with them?
Alphinaud: As much as you like. But just to be sure, I will return with you to confirm their identities. If they are who we suspect, we will require your aid.
Sul Uin: If Alphinaud is coming, then Alisaie will be too, yes? Can't have one without the other, you know!
Alisaie: <sigh> All right. Just remember, we're not your playmates this time.
Alphinaud: I'm afraid we must leave the rest of the relic hunt in your hands.
< What will you say? > < Don't worry. I've done this sort of thing before. > < It's fine. Defeating the Lightwarden would always have fallen to me. >
< Don't worry. I've done this sort of thing before. > Alphinaud: Indeed you have! Very well, then. See you afterwards, my friend!
< It's fine. Defeating the Lightwarden would always have fallen to me. > Alphinaud: Perhaps. But I would feel better if we were there to assist you. <sigh> Back to cheering you on from afar. See you afterwards, my friend.
