Walkthrough

This quest contains a solo instance that takes place in the Aetherfont.

At the start, move forward and defeat the two groups of enemies on the path, then talk to the Hard-pressed Surveyor.

Take the zipline to the next area, then go right and talk to the Concerned Researcher. The nearby gate will open, revealing an area that was previously inaccessible in the dungeon instance.

Defeat the enemies past the gate, then interact with the Beast Carcass further ahead (14.1, 13.1). Head to the eastern part of the area and interact with the Tattered Plumage (14.6, 14.9). Continue southwest and interact with the Animal Leavings (13.2, 15.4), which will also spawn some enemies. Return to the researchers behind the gate, which triggers a cutscene, then a boss.

Aggressive difficulty r6.png Giant Colibri

You will be accompanied by G'raha Tia and Wuk Lamat during this battle.

  • Wind Unbound: Unavoidable party-wide magical damage.
  • Snatch Morsel: Tankbuster.
  • Pecking Flurry: Unavoidable party-wide physical damage and sequentially spawns three sets of circular AoEs that cover the entire arena. Move into the first set of AoE telegraphs once they go off.
  • Sticky Spit: Stack marker on the player that inflicts Sticky icon.png Sticky, preventing all movement and actions. The boss will begin casting Gliding Spit, a line AoE. However, Wuk Lamat will escape the slime and pull both you and G'raha Tia to safety.
  • The boss uses Pecking Flurry again followed by Swoop, a line AoE charge in front of it with a brief telegraph.
  • Furling Flapping: Spread AoE telegraphs on everyone. This attack will knock everyone up and incapacitate them with Fetters icon.png Fetters (tornadoes).
  • The boss begins casting Gliding Spit again, then a very brief active time maneuver will start. Once you break out of the tornado, defeat the other two tornadoes to free your allies before they are hit with the attack.
  • Ruffling of Feathers: The boss becomes untargetable and begins hitting the party with Full-fledged Tantrum, unavoidable magical damage. Its two wings (Left Wing and Right Wing) will become targetable. G'raha Tia will heal during this sequence. Wuk Lamat will destroy both wings with a limit-break-esque AoE.
  • Once this sequence is over, finish off the boss.

Steps

Journal

  • As you deliberate a suitable location for Wuk Lamat's hunt, Erenville mentions a petition for aid from researchers on the Isle of Haam. Some manner of predator has unsettled ordinarily docile animals, causing them to behave savagely, and the task involves identifying and dealing with the creature. Seeing an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, you all make your way to Scholar's Harbor to secure passage with the exception of Krile, who promises to join you at the isle after she has seen to her preparations.
  • After a brief search, you manage to find Erenville and the visitor, who introduces herself as Wuk Lamat, claimant to the throne of Tuliyollal in the far-western continent of Tural. The gregarious woman wastes no time revealing her business: she wants you to accompany her to her homeland and help her triumph in the impending ritual of succession, a contest to determine the next ruler. As it is a rather abrupt request to make of someone she has only just met, she proposes going on a hunt together, the better to get acquainted.
  • You enjoy a hearty repast with Wuk Lamat, who takes the opportunity to speak more of her homeland and the coming ritual of succession. It becomes clear that her chief aim in seeking the throne is to deny the ambitions of another claimant a warmonger who aspires to lead Tural's armies on a campaign of conquest. Reiterating her desire for you to join her cause, she says that she will remain in Sharlayan for as long as she can while awaiting your decision.
  • Though Erenville is less than impressed with Wuk Lamat in certain ways, he appears to believe in her cause. Whether you choose to lend your strength to it, however, is entirely your decision. The gleaner then goes off to report the mission's success to the guildship, leaving you to ponder your invitation to Tural.

Dialogue

Talking to G'raha Tia (cutscene):

G'raha Tia: The chance to see not only Tural, but the fabled golden city besides... This is the stuff of grand adventures, my friend!
G'raha Tia: Wh-Which is not to say you should hastily accept this invitation, mind. There's still a great deal we do not know.
G'raha Tia: So let us begin to rectify that by first getting acquainted with our visitor in the manner she suggests.
G'raha Tia: I'm not certain what might be a suitable location for her hunt, however...
Erenville: When I was at the guild earlier, I learned about a petition from researchers on the Isle of Haam.
Erenville: You went there not long ago and culled some unruly fauna, of course, but according to recent reports, other ordinarily docile fauna have grown savage.
Erenville: It's believed that they've been unsettled by some manner of predator, and so the researchers seek assistance with identifying and dispatching it. As part of your hunt, perhaps you might answer the petition?
G'raha Tia: The isle isn't far, and we would also be helping those in need...
Wuk Lamat: That works for me!
Wuk Lamat: Just so you know─I've honed my skills against some of the fiercest beasts in Tural.
Wuk Lamat: Whatever this creature is, it had better be able to put up a proper fight, or it'll end before we have the chance to get acquainted.
Krile: And before we can prove ourselves capable and dependable companions...
Krile: My apologies, but I must see to some preparations. Pray go on ahead to the isle─I will join you as soon as possible.
Erenville: If the rest of you are ready, let us head to the harbor. This being guildship business, it should be simple enough to secure a vessel.

Optional Dialogue:

Erenville: We have the loan of a ship from one of the captains─a cheery fellow. I can operate the vessel, so we don't need to trouble him to take us.

Talking to Wuk Lamat:

Wuk Lamat: So we have to take a ship? Ugh, and I've barely set foot on dry land...
Wuk Lamat: Oh well, I suppose it's for a good cause─a hunt!
Wuk Lamat: Come on, let's get going!
System: Upon boarding the ship, several cutscenes will play in sequence.
System: It is recommended that you set aside sufficient time to view these scenes in their entirety.
System: In addition, you will be required to participate in battle. Your progress will be saved at certain points. In the event you are defeated, you will be able to try again from the most recent of these.
System: Please note that if you enter battles associated with other quests or log out from the game, this progress will be lost.

Voiced Cutscene:

Erenville: From here, we must walk.
Wuk Lamat: So much ice... It rivals even Yok Tural.
Wuk Lamat: Ooh, a white bear! I wonder what it tastes like...
Erenville: Remember, we're here to deal with creatures that have been deemed an unacceptable danger. Do not attack anything else unprovoked.
Wuk Lamat: I know, I know.
Wuk Lamat: So this is the isle where aether literally bursts forth!
Erenville: Aye, the Isle of Haam. The geysers lie deep inland, however.
Wuk Lamat: You really are knowledgeable. Koana told me nothing about this place.
Erenville: I doubt your brother managed to come out this way. He's like to have toured facilities like Labyrinthos, however.
Wuk Lamat: The great big cavern under the city? It's amazing that they could make a sky down there, complete with a sun.
G'raha Tia: This brother of yours... He has been to Sharlayan?
Wuk Lamat: He has. Koana's my second older brother, and until recently, he was a student in the city.
Wuk Lamat: He went on and on about “technological amusements.” It made me want to come here too one day.
Wuk Lamat: And so I did. I think I understood something of how he felt when I set foot in his beloved Studium.
G'raha Tia: He went to the Studium? Your brother must be quite a scholar.
G'raha Tia: But I wonder... Like you, he'd be royalty, yes? Such a personage coming to Sharlayan to receive an education would surely have caused a stir, yet I recall nothing of the sort...
Wuk Lamat: He consulted with the head of the Studium beforehand, that his identity might remain secret.
Wuk Lamat: Being Miqo'te, he had no trouble blending in. He's adopted like me, you see.
Wuk Lamat: One time, though, he almost let it slip to a professor. It was all he could do to parry the barrage of questions.
G'raha Tia: Having no shortage of questions myself, I can imagine.
Wuk Lamat: Ask whatever you like. I don't mind. But I maintain hunting together is the best way to get to know someone.
Erenville: The researchers should be up ahead. Let's find them and learn what we can.

Solo Instance:

Erenville: The researchers should be just ahead.
Erenville: There─the building to the northeast.
G'raha Tia: So, ordinarily harmless creatures have grown savage...
Wuk Lamat: Don't know what's got them riled up, but I'll take down any that thinks to try me!
Erenville: I'll leave the fighting to you.
Wuk Lamat: Right, let's hunt our fill!
Erenville: Well struck!
Erenville: All right. Let's keep moving.
Erenville: Look! Someone's in trouble!
Hard-pressed Surveyor: Someone help!
Wuk Lamat: Yaaargh! Taste my axe!
Hard-pressed Surveyor: Aaahhh!
Erenville: These animals are usually so docile...
Erenville: What has happened to this island?
Erenville: They leave us no choice...
Erenville: Are you all right?
Hard-pressed Surveyor: Yes, thanks to you.
Hard-pressed Surveyor: Oh, thank goodness you've come. I take it you're the one who answered our petition.
Hard-pressed Surveyor: Wait, aren't you...? You are! Forename, the adventurer who saved our star! Would that our meeting was under better circumstances.
Hard-pressed Surveyor: I was conducting a routine inspection of the transporter here when I suddenly found myself surrounded.
Hard-pressed Surveyor: You'll find more of the same across the chasm─once-docile animals grown strangely aggressive. My colleagues there can tell you more.
Hard-pressed Surveyor: If you'll give me just a moment, I can finish checking our equipment.
Wuk Lamat: You really are famous.
G'raha Tia: And for good reason, as you'll soon see for yourself.
Hard-pressed Surveyor: There. It should be safe to cross now.
Wuk Lamat: Let's go!
Wuk Lamat: Haha! Quite an interesting contraption you've got here!
Erenville: Is that our petitioner? Let's go and have a chat.
Distressed Researcher: If you've come to answer the petition, you should speak with my colleague here.
Concerned Researcher: The adventurer come to answer my petition, I presume? We're most fortunate to have one of your considerable skill here to aid us.
Concerned Researcher: A creature of unknown origins has been sighted on the island in recent days, and we believe its presence has affected the local fauna.
Concerned Researcher: The animals beyond this gate are the worst affected we've encountered thus far, though we dare not go back.
Concerned Researcher: Your task is to quell any threats you find, and search for traces of the beast responsible for all this.
Concerned Researcher: If you should find anything─anything at all─we would be most grateful if you would share it with us.
Wuk Lamat: Let's get started!
Erenville: No running off!
Wuk Lamat: I'll handle this!
Wuk Lamat: Hold still!
Wuk Lamat: Hmph. Is that all?
G'raha Tia: Impressive.
Wuk Lamat: Come on, let's pick up the creature's trail!
G'raha Tia: What have we here?
Erenville: Struck down defending its territory, most like.
System: You find ravaged beast remains, torn to shreds by sharp talons...
Wuk Lamat: These claw marks... I've seen their like before.
Erenville: We mustn't let any more creatures come to harm.
Wuk Lamat: It's starting to feel like a proper hunt!
G'raha Tia: What manner of beast could it be?
Erenville: I see no tracks that match those claw marks...
Wuk Lamat: Such marks would be too common in any case.
Erenville: There has to be a clue here somewhere...
G'raha Tia: How large do you suppose it is?
Erenville: What's this?
Wuk Lamat: The beast has feathers, eh?
System: You find feathers are scattered about the ground. There are signs of a fierce struggle...
G'raha Tia: Feathers... But did they belong to the predator or the prey?
Wuk Lamat: So, how do you prefer our prey? Roasted or raw?
Erenville: You presume it's even safe to eat...
Wuk Lamat: So many strange plants you have here.
Erenville: Focus. We've no time for picking flowers.
Wuk Lamat: Ugh, that smell...
System: The cloying stench of fresh leavings assails your nostrils. Whatever beast left them is likely still close by...
Erenville: Still fresh. Whatever this beast, it cannot be far.
System: The animals are worked up into a frenzy!
Erenville: Careful!
G'raha Tia: Do you suppose they're upset we disturbed their home?
Wuk Lamat: Who knows? But if they're spoiling for a fight, then they've got one!
Erenville: Let's head back and report what we've found.
Wuk Lamat: You said the beast is close?
G'raha Tia: Even so, we should speak with the researchers first.

Cutscene

Wuk Lamat: Powerful wings and razor-sharp talons... Worthy prey!
Giant Colibri: Squawk! What is that thing!? What is that thing!?
Wuk Lamat: It...
Wuk Lamat: It speaks!?
G'raha Tia: It's heading towards the falls!
Erenville: I'll stay with the researchers. The creature, I leave to you.
G'raha Tia: Come, Wuk Lamat!
Wuk Lamat: Just so we're clear, I wasn't startled by the beast earlier. It caught me by surprise, that's all.
G'raha Tia: Forgive me, but I fail to see a difference.
Wuk Lamat: I-I'm getting hungry. Let's be done with this so we can eat!
Giant Colibri: Caught me by surprise! Caught me by surprise!
Wuk Lamat: Think you're clever, huh? I'll rip off that beak and roast you on a spit!

Giant Colibri battle:

Wuk Lamat: Talk all you like, bird! I'm going to have the last laugh!
Wuk Lamat: Oh, I'm going to enjoy sinking my teeth into you!
Giant Colibri: I'm going to have the last laugh!
Wuk Lamat: Gah! Shut up already, you blasted bird!
Giant Colibri: Shut up already! Shut up already!
G'raha Tia: Look out!
G'raha Tia: I've never seen such an enormous colibri...
Wuk Lamat: Not good... Quickly, gather together!
G'raha Tia: I...can't move...
Wuk Lamat: I've got you!
Wuk Lamat: Yaaaaaargh!
G'raha Tia: That was too close...
Wuk Lamat: Steady now.
G'raha Tia: Spread out, everyone.
Wuk Lamat: You'll pay for that!
Wuk Lamat: Thank you.
System: The giant colibri flies into a fit of rage!
Wuk Lamat: What's gotten into this thing!?
G'raha Tia: Try aiming for its wings!
Wuk Lamat: Hmph, that was hardly a tickle!
Giant Colibri: Hardly a tickle!
Wuk Lamat: Try this!
Wuk Lamat: Nothing to it.
Wuk Lamat: We have you now, you loud-mouthed bastard!
Giant Colibri: Loud-mouthed bastard!
G'raha Tia: Throw everything you have at it!

Post-battle cutscene:

Wuk Lamat: Hmph, and I had barely limbered up.
G'raha Tia: It was a terrible foe, but no match for your axe.
Wuk Lamat: O-Only to be expected!
Wuk Lamat: You were pretty impressive yourselves. I was right to invite you on a hunt.
Wuk Lamat: But what a curious bird that was. Though we have similar in Tural, they don't grow so big or use such dirty tricks.
Giant Colibri: Dirty tricks! Dirty tricks!
Wuk Lamat: Aye, dirty and despicable. Otherwise I could have...easily...
Krile: Leave this to me!
G'raha Tia: Krile?
Krile: I am terribly, terribly sorry to have kept you all waiting!
Erenville: She arrived as I was seeing the researchers to safety. It was all I could do to keep up with her after I explained what happened.
G'raha Tia: So this is what you meant by seeing to preparations.
Krile: After hearing of the contest, I thought how wonderful it would be to join you.
Krile: In coming here, I wanted to demonstrate my skill at arms to Wuk Lamat. Alas, it seems I missed most of the action...
Wuk Lamat: That was amazing! The beast didn't stand a chance!
Krile: I'm glad to have been of service.
Krile: You will recall the time you descended to the aetherial sea in search of Hydaelyn.
Krile: Recognizing that my skills were inadequate, I chose to provide support from afar rather than join you.
Krile: It was the same when you set forth for Ultima Thule. How it pained me to stay behind, again and again...
Krile: That's what inspired this change. Ever since the Final Days were averted, I've used every spare moment to hone my craft.
Krile: As you all have adapted your methods to suit the circumstances, I started by considering how I might best contribute.
Krile: And after much deliberation, I arrived at my answer...
Krile: With the esoteric art passed down by the legendary Archon Relm─pictomancy.
Krile: As I recall, you have embraced versatility to effectively complement a certain someone's style.
Krile: What I do is much the same. Like you, I don't want to be left behind.
G'raha Tia: Indeed.
G'raha Tia: I must say, you appear to be especially keen on being involved in the ritual of succession. Is there any particular reason?
Krile: Yes, there is. This letter from Tuliyollal.
Krile: It was addressed to my grandfather Galuf, and turned up among the Students' archives.
Krile: The ink was faded so I couldn't fully make out the sender's name, a Gulool...someone.
Wuk Lamat: Ja Ja. Gulool Ja Ja. That's my father, the Dawnservant.
Wuk Lamat: What does the letter say?
Krile: While much of it isn't legible, it appears to be a request to investigate the golden city.
Erenville: A request to investigate the golden city...from the Dawnservant himself?
Wuk Lamat: Well, well... Seems it may be more than a rumor after all.
Krile: Being a member of the royal family, it was my hope that you could confirm the authenticity of this letter.
Wuk Lamat: I can say for a fact that my father didn't write this.
Wuk Lamat: Given how culturally diverse Tuliyollal is, it was decided some time ago that a common language was needed.
Wuk Lamat: But instead of elevating an existing tongue, and its speakers, above all others, we looked to those widely spoken overseas and created an altogether new one.
Wuk Lamat: These similarities to your common tongue also make it quite easy to communicate in these situations, no?
Wuk Lamat: This letter, however, is entirely in Eorzean. If Father had written this, it would have been in Turali.
Wuk Lamat: What's more, it bears a wax seal. We don't bother with them.
Krile: So the letter is fraudulent, then?
Wuk Lamat: Oh, I didn't mean to say that. My father's signature is genuine, as far as I can tell, so perhaps he simply dictated it.
Krile: I see... Thank you for the confirmation. It seems my grandfather indeed had dealings with Tuliyollal.
Krile: I can't help but be curious as to what exactly he was doing there.
Krile: In order to help us decide on a course of action, would you mind if I asked you some questions about your home?
Wuk Lamat: By all means.
Wuk Lamat: After all, learning about one another was the purpose of this hunt.
Wuk Lamat: We can talk while feasting on this fellow. I for one am starving!
G'raha Tia: We're eating...that?

Optional Dialogue:

Krile: Thanks to Wuk Lamat, we now know who sent the letter to Grandfather, among other things. But many questions still remain...
G'raha Tia: I understand Krile's feelings all too well. The desire to do one's part. It can be daunting to try and keep up, but nothing will change unless we take the first step.
Wuk Lamat: Ah, what an exciting hunt that was! And now, it's time to savor the reward!

Talking to Erenville:

Erenville: With the wildlife pacified and the researchers safe, our task is complete.
Erenville: That just leaves the matter of the colibri meat...
Erenville: For better or for worse, there's really only one place we can take it to here in Sharlayan: the Last Stand.
Erenville: Come, let us see what Dickon can cook up for us

Talking to Dickon:

Dickon: Well now, there's a famished face if I've ever seen one. What can I get you, Forename?
Dickon: Oho, bird meat from the hunt, you say? Leave it to me─I have just the recipe.
Dickon: It's a new dish I recently learned from some sailors, and for you lot, it's on the house. Have as much as you like, you hear?

Voiced cutscene:

Wuk Lamat: Come, come, let's enjoy the bounty of our first outing together!
Wuk Lamat: I'd heard that Sharlayan cuisine was terrible, but this is fantastic!
Erenville: What is this? It smells...spicy.
Wuk Lamat: Oh come now, since when did you become so soft? It's not like we don't have spicy food in Tural too!
G'raha Tia: According to Dickon, intensely hot dishes have become popular in Radz-at-Han after a traveler ordered a curry with several times the usual amount of spice.
G'raha Tia: So he started offering the same in order to please the growing Hannish population here in Sharlayan.
Wuk Lamat: It's nothing...I can't handle!
Erenville: Your boorish manners reflect poorly on the both of us. I wish you would consider your station...
Wuk Lamat: I swear, sometimes it feels like you open your mouth only to criticize.
G'raha Tia: Would I be correct in assuming you've known each other for a long time?
Wuk Lamat: Aye. Thick as thieves since we were little.
Erenville: I beg to differ. She is a long-standing acquaintance, nothing more.
G'raha Tia: I see, I see...
Krile: All this time, you were from Tural? Would that I had known sooner. There's so much I'd like to ask...
Erenville: You and everyone else. I've kept it quiet so as to avoid the endless interrogations.
Wuk Lamat: Well, if he's going to be a miser, I'll be happy to tell you about our homeland instead.
Wuk Lamat: Since ancient times, many peoples have called Tural home, and they've been fighting each other for nearly as long.
Wuk Lamat: The fighting finally stopped some eighty years ago, when the reigning Dawnservant unified the disparate communities and founded a new nation.
G'raha Tia: And that's how Tuliyollal came to be...

Wuk Lamat: Since then, we've enjoyed an era of uninterrupted peace.
Wuk Lamat: But my father is getting old, and he wishes to relinquish the throne to a worthy successor─one who can preserve his legacy.
Wuk Lamat: Including myself, there are four claimants to the throne. But while we all have the right to participate, one among us cannot be allowed to rule.
Erenville: A man who is too ambitious by half.
Erenville: Word of the Garlean Empire's collapse has reached Tural.
Erenville: While most are simply relieved, he sees weakness to exploit, and would lead our armies across the seas on a campaign of conquest.
Wuk Lamat: After everything my father has done to give us peace, he would drag us back into war.
Wuk Lamat: I can't allow it!
Wuk Lamat: No matter what, I must win this contest!
G'raha Tia: I understand your reasons, but this being an event that will dictate the course of your nation's future, is it appropriate for outsiders like us to be involved?
Wuk Lamat: Oh, it's more than appropriate. The Dawnservant himself expressly encourages it.
Wuk Lamat: The ruler of Tural must navigate the intricacies of myriad cultures, and there's no better way to prove oneself qualified to do so than to work with foreign allies.
Wuk Lamat: That's why I sought you out. Through our hunt, I've confirmed that you're a warrior of considerable skill. But more importantly, one of good character as well.
Wuk Lamat: And so I ask you: will you lend me your strength, and help me win the throne of Tuliyollal?
Wuk Lamat: You don't need to decide right this moment.
Wuk Lamat: But I will need you if I'm to triumph over the competition. I'll stay here as long as I can while waiting for your answer.
Krile: In that case, allow us to prepare a room for you at the Baldesion Annex.
Wuk Lamat: That's very kind of you!
Wuk Lamat: Oh, and one more thing... Once we've finished eating, would you mind if I took the rest of the meat?

Optional Dialogue:

G'raha Tia: Judging by Wuk Lamat's reaction, it appears Turali cuisine isn't excessively fiery.

Talking to Erenville:

Erenville: Whether Wuk Lamat has the makings of a ruler, I couldn't say. But I do know that she deeply cares for her nation and her people.
Erenville: Whether you choose to help her, though, is for you and you alone to decide. Think on it well.
Erenville: Now then, it's past time I reported our mission's success to the guildship. I would've done so sooner, except Her Highness needed to have her royal meal.
Erenville: I shall come by the annex later. Till then.
