Journal
- Runar lets out a sigh of relief.
- With Toddia's heartstone safely returned to Runar, the Night's Blessed are able to proceed with her funeral service. To show his appreciation for your efforts, he insists that you and your comrades attend the service as honored guests. He then asks you to inform the others while he sees to preparations.
- You find Minfilia telling Thancred of your recent undertaking in the woods. She is delighted by their invitation, and promises not to be late. With Y'shtola and Urianger toiling away to decipher the tablet, you decide not to disturb them and make for the Darker.
- In the dimly lit cave you find an elderly woman you believe to be the attendant Runar spoke of. Without saying a word she hands you a candle, and points to a spot on the floor close by.
- Seeing the cluster of candles there on the floor, you place yours among them, and the attendant nods and smiles in answer. It would appear you have done your part in preparing for the service. All you can do now is wait for it to begin.
- Before long, a procession of mourners enter the Darker. Among them you find Y'shtola and Urianger, who have taken a reprieve from working to pay their respects. They join you in the rear of the chamber, and a hush soon falls over the room. Runar then enters taking his place at the Font of Seeing, and delivers a moving service in memory of Toddia. As the room clears, Y'shtola invites you to her chambers to discuss the tablet.
- Y'shtola has finished deciphering the tablet and is prepared to reveal her findings. It will not be long before you track down the Lightwarden.
Dialogue
Quest Acceptance
Runar: Words fail to express my gratitude for this kindness you have done for the Blessed. I must insist you and your friends attend Toddia's service as honored guests. There is still much we must do to prepare, but please go and inform the others it will be held in the Darker. When you arrive, there should be an attendant present to explain the proceedings.
Speak with Minfilia
Minfilia: [Forename] and I learned so much about the Night's Blessed while you were away. And we helped them recover a lost heirloom out in the woods. I know I wasn't supposed to leave, but they really needed our help! There were sin eaters, and─ Thancred: As long as [he/she] accompanied you. But do try to be more careful. Your injuries could have been a lot worse. Minfilia: H-How did you...? Thancred: Let's just say a little bird told me. And it's telling me now that [Forename] has business with us. Minfilia: Is something the matter?
Minfilia: They've asked us to attend the service? Of course we'll go. It's being held in the Darker, is it? We'll take care not to be late, I promise.
Speak with the placid elder
Placid Elder: ... The elderly woman hands you a candle. She then points over at a nearby corner where you might place it.
Wait at the destination
Y'shtola: It seemed only right that we show our faces. May we join you? (Runar walks over slowly, with someone following the gem close behind) Runar: Let us begin. I thank you all for coming to pay respects to our fallen daughter of the night. In the light, she was known as Toddia. But in the dark, we shall remember her always as Minnine. Let us each take a moment to offer her our prayers. (Everyone closes their eyes, and Runar takes the gem into his hands) We entrust her now to the night's sweet embrace. In Darkness will she be free from pain and suffering, now and forevermore. (Everyone in the community is kneeling and praying) May her soul find peace in the sunless sea of heaven, and in the love we bear for her in our hearts. (Runar lets the gem fall into the water, where it glows) Y'shtola: That vessel represents the night sky. The “sunless sea of heaven.” (many gems in the water are glowing) Runar: We call upon you now, O Bringer of Shadow, to lead this gentle soul unto the sea. We call upon you, O Warrior of Darkness, to deliver her unto paradise everlasting. Y'shtola: I am told you assisted in the preparations for the service. On behalf of the Blessed, you have my sincerest thanks. The enduring legend of the Warrior of Darkness owes much to the traditions of these people. And none were more ardent in their faith than Toddia. She would have been greatly moved by your presence.
What will you say? I should like to have met her. / You know I don't deserve such reverence. / ... -> You know I don't deserve such reverence. Minfilia: You might not deliver her to the heavens, but if you could deliver the night sky to her people─the real night sky─it would be the next best thing. Their prayers would finally be answered. They could gaze up at the firmament and see their ancestors in every twinkle of the stars. We cannot allow their hopes and dreams to drown in the light. We have to bring back the dark. If we don't, who will? Forgive me. Thinking of all those we have lost, I... Thancred: No, it's all right. We will bring back the dark.
Y'shtola: Mayhap sooner than later, in fact. Urianger and I have finished deciphering the tablet, and its contents were most illuminating. Let us reconvene in my chambers. We have much to discuss.
Speak with Y'shtola
Y'shtola: Good, you're here. Thanks to the Exarch's gift, our next course of action is now clear.
