“Let this be my last act as an adventurer. I’ve done quite enough harm as it is.”

Paiyo was charmed by Avere, and had faith in the inexperienced young man’s leadership qualities, despite the myriad signs telling him otherwise. The Plainsfolk Lalafell resolved to become a steadying right hand to Avere, but could not stop the youth’s wild rush into the Deepcroft. At only twenty-two, Paiyo returned to his hamlet to live a quiet life and forget his troubled past—only to find that past catch up with him when an invitation arrived to Edda’s wedding...

Lore

Paiyo was originally a member of the adventuring party of Edda and Avere, acting as the groups Thaumaturge. He joined them on their excursions into various dungeons and lairs of beasts, but ultimately left the party when Avere lost his life. Though he pitied Edda for her loss, he was not willing to put his life in further risk, and went his own way. Sometime later, however, he received a strange invitation to attend Avere's and Edda's wedding, at the Tam-Tara Deepcroft, where Avere had lost his life of all places. With the aid of the Warrior of Light, he aids in an investigation to see what was truly taking place.

When it turned out that Edda had in fact partaken in a ritual of necromancy in a crazed attempt to revive Avere, Paiyo was captured so his body and soul may be sacrificed to make Avere even stronger. When freed by the Warrior of Light, Paiyo told them he would wait outside until matters had been settled.

When the Warrior of Light returned and shared the grave news about Edda's fate, Paiyo was saddened but ultimately relieved that she wasn't suffering, nor would he have to worry about her bothering him again. As if on cue, Paiyo witnessed a horrifying vision of the spirit of Edda behind the Warrior. He fled for his life.

Later the Warrior of Light found Avere's Ring, and shortly after was told of a drunk man who had been seen at Buscarron's Druthers muttering about the supernatural. The drunk turned out to be Paiyo, who had been attempting to drown his trauma in ale ever since the incident at the Tam-Tara Deepcroft. When the Warrior of Light showed Avere's Ring to Paiyo he decided to hold a memorial for Avere and Edda. Paiyo would symbolically bury their engagement rings, and hopefully put their spirits to rest. Once this was done Paiyo expressed his gratitude to the Warrior of Light, said that he thought the reason Avere and Edda died was due to a lack of unity in their party, and swore "No one should suffer as they did, and I will do all I can to see other would-be heroes do not succumb to such a fate."
