“Only a single instance of Bitoso's summoning has ever been recorded, and that was during the Fifth Astral Era's War of the Magi. The voidmages of Mhach, weary of their protracted campaign to overthrow the Vylbrand city-state of Nym, called forth a powerful voidsent (now classified as sixth-rung) that would introduce a deadly plague into the population. Hidden by a cloak of invisibility, Bitoso weaved its way through Nym, inflicting her people with an incurable sickness; however, more than the disease itself, the panic that ensued sealed the city-state's fate.

“Bitoso’s ability to conceal his form left the Nymians guessing as to the actual cause of the plague that was consuming their city from within. By the time they had uncovered the truth, it was too late to save those who had fallen—both to the scourge itself, and at the hands of the mages who had sought to quell it.

During the War of the Magi, the mages of Mhach employed Voidsent to help attack smaller cities and towns. one such city was that of Nym. While they weren't as powerful as the Mhachi or Amdapor, they were able to hold their own and prevent Mhachi from fully invading them. During this time, the sailors of the Nymian navy set out for an island in routine trade, but were battered by a fierce storm. They soon came upon a small island of Lalafells. The natives of this island helped heal them and repair their boat. The sailors exchanged goods and returned soon after, with a treasure offered as a gift; an ornate amphora. Upon returning home, the people of Nym soon grew incredibly ill, suffering horrific symptoms that disfigured their bodies. The cause of the disease remained unknown for far too long, and by the time it was revealed, it was already too late. The amphora had been planted by the Mhachi, the storm manufactured. The amphora was used to unleash Bitoso, a pestilence-ridden Voidsent called by the people of Mhach for the sole purpose of destroying the Nymians. Bitoso was able to enter the city, and cloak itself to remain undetected, infecting the city from the inside.
